Project Team’s Corner
Following the Collaborative Targeted Outreach Programme (CTOP) events in January-February 2024, the University of Bedfordshire hosted the CTOP play & open day on 4th and 5th July 2024. Nasreen Ali, Professor of Public Health Equality and Programme Lead for The Talk Listen Change (TLC) Workforce Research Programme and Rukia Saleem, TLC Researcher, worked in collaboration with Komola Collective to use storytelling to illustrate research findings. Specifically, the focus was on the voices and lived experiences of young people, community and professionals from underrepresented groups on their views about the challenges and successes related to choosing health and social care courses and careers. The aim of the play is to contribute to developing an inclusive health and social care workforce by engaging with young people, parents, career switchers, under-represented groups and communities from diverse ethnic backgrounds to improve their knowledge, perceptions and status of nursing, midwifery, allied health professions and social work to increase their representation on courses and in the NHS workforce.
The event also provided the opportunity to network with University staff and employers to obtain information about routes into courses and careers in health and social care, have a tour of the university simulation suites and network over tea and biscuits before watching the play.
