Fear of referral: Fitness to practise and its implications on safety of migrant healthcare professionals in the UK

On 12th July 2025, Registration, a play by Stage@Leeds Young Company, was performed at the Alec Clegg Studio, stage@leeds, Leeds.

The event was attended by over 35 members of the public, including overseas-trained healthcare professionals. Following the performance, Priyasha Saksena, co-investigator of the Making it to the Registers project, shared insight into the project’s origin and motivation.

Registration explores migration, stigma, and the complex issue of who is considered worthy of becoming a healthcare professional in the UK. The play tells the human stories behind the paperwork involved in obtaining license to practise for migrant and refugee nurses and doctors, based on the research findings of the Making it to the Registers project.
